Inventory Scanning

To manage large IT infrastructures, with many clients, manual configuration management becomes very complex. As a result, both the hardware inventory and the software licenses used on each hardware element are often outdated. To get them updated, a big effort of the IT team is needed and often six months later this needs to be repeated.

Automated inventory scanning offers the solution for this and it can be done using agents or without agents. OmniAsset is the part of OmniTracker that provides the interface with the world's leading inventory scanning solutions, enabling to automatically fill OmniTracker's Configuration Management.

Agent based inventory scanning, using Novell Zenworks
The agent based version offers the most detailed scanning possibilities, but has as a disadvantage that agents need to be installed. OmniTracker integrates with the world's leading inventory scanning solution Novell ZenWorks to provide this solution

The Configuration elements within OmniTracker are automatically filled and kept updated, showing detailed information on the hardware configuration and the software versions installed on it.

Agentless inventory scanning using Microsoft WMI protocol

Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) is Microsoft's standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment. WMI uses the Common Information Model (CIM) industry standard to provide access to a machine's manageable components (systems, applications, network settings, devices etc.). Using WMI technology, virtually every piece of software and hardware can be queried remotely.

OmniAsset, the Configuration Management part of OmniTracker, has an integration of the WMI protocol, enabling OmniTracker to scan all devices that run Microsoft software. This fills OmniTracker with system information from many sources including hardware, software, operating system, bios, resources, devices, event logs, registry, drivers and directory services.
